clp compliance regulations stay compliant with chemishield
Chemishield & CLP Compliance

The Regulations:

A pioneering solution, our cloud-based platform, Chemishield, greatly enhances safety in the laboratory whilst also aligning with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of hazardous chemicals and the communication of these hazards to users through labelling (the ‘CLP Regulation.’) Chemishield ensures full compliance with this and the Waste Framework Directive, or Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament, which provides for a general framework of waste management requirements setting out the basic waste management definitions for the EU.

There is an onus on generators of chemical waste to ensure facility compliance with the CLP regulation and the Waste Framework Directive. The latter of which dictates that you need to be able to show full cradle to grave accountability of the chemical waste leaving your facility from when it is generated right up to the point of leaving the site. There are serious fines in relation to breaches.

The Benefits of Chemishield:

Chemishield provides full auditable records detailing the entire sequence of events for all hazardous waste generated. As the info is electronic you don’t have to spend time trying to retrieve records etc during an audit.

Chemishield utilizes CLP compliant labelling which in turn uses a QR code system. When Chemishield tells you which waste containers are available to dispose of waste into, a two-step validation process is initiated where you have to scan the container to ensure that you have the correct one to hand – foggy heads on a Monday morning or distracted heads on a Friday evening are eliminated, addressing both a compliance and a safety issue common to labs.

Similarly, typically companies label up their waste containers using a marker. Using a marker on a waste container creates vulnerability. If you spill any of the chemical down the side of the container the marker is washed away, thus the contents of the container become unknown. By using our CLP compliant labelling, the chemicals, quantities and CAS number, along with the waste stream name are clearly identifiable. Not only will you be able to identify the company that has disposed of the waste, you’ll also be able to drill down to which lab generated the waste in the first instance. Chemishield manages the entire hazardous waste disposal process for laboratories.
